ABILENE -- For the second time in the last three seasons, the ACU Wildcats and Angelo State Rams will square off to determine the Lone Star Conference baseball champion.

Angelo State rebounded after Sunday's loss to ACU to knock out Cameron and Tarleton State on Monday and advance to Tuesday's championship round against the Wildcats. The Rams knocked out top-seeded Cameron, 11-6, in the second game of the day Monday, and then knocked out a scrappy Tarleton State squad with a 5-2 victory late Monday.

ACU and Angelo State will play at 1 p.m. Monday at Crutcher Scott Field with a Wildcat victory giving ACU its first league championship since 2002. Angelo State will have to do what it did in 2007 to win the league title -- beat the Wildcats twice on their home field.

Here's a recap of each game Monday:

Angelo State 11, Cameron 6 (Cameron eliminated)

Jason Morriss had four hits and drove in a pair of runs and Trey Carter and Austin Lasprilla each drove in three runs as the Rams eliminated the Aggies, 11-6, at Crutcher Scott Field.

Morris gave the Rams a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run double that plated Keith Towne and Chris Adamson. The Aggies, however, took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first on Nick Arevalo's 20th home run of the season, a three-run shot deep over the wall in left field.

Lasprilla pushed the Rams back in front, 4-3, with a two-run single in the third that scored Morris and Travis Lee. Cameron scored three more runs in the bottom of the third to regain a 6-4 lead, but that was all the offense the Aggies could muster.

The Rams scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to take an 8-6 lead into the late innings of the game. The Rams put the game away with three runs in the eighth as Brian Rasberry and Carter each had run-scoring singles in the inning.

Sam Janca went six innings to pick up the win for the Rams, while Craig Blair went the final three innings to pick up his first save of the season.

Angelo State 5, Tarleton State 3

The Rams eliminated the Texans from the tournament and moved into the conference championship round for the second time in the last three seasons with a 5-3 win at Crutcher Scott Field.

Keith Towne got the Rams off to a good start in the top of the first when he hit a two-run home run to left-centerfield (his 26th of the season) that gave ASU a 2-0 lead.

The Rams never trailed after that, although the Texans did get one run in the bottom of the third to make it a 2-1 game. The Rams, however, answered with two more runs in the fourth inning and then another in the seventh to make it 5-2.

The Texans had their chances as they left seven runners on base, including six in scoring position. But they couldn't get the hits they needed to get runners across the plate.
